چکیده

The behavior of the Earth’s middle atmosphere and ionosphere is governed by multiple processes resulting not only from downward energy transfer Sun magnetosphere but also upward terrestrial weather. Understanding relative importance mechanisms beyond solar geomagnetic activity essential for progress in multi-day predictions atmosphere-ionosphere system. recent development research infrastructure, particularly Antarctica, allows observation new ionospheric features. Here we show first time that large disturbances observed Arctic winter polar stratosphere (20–50 km above ground at 60–90°N) during a sudden stratospheric warming event are communicated across globe cause summertime plasma over Antarctica (60–90°S). Ionospheric anomalies reach ∼100% background level days. We suggest several possible could contribute to formation upper atmospheric southern hemisphere.

Bacterial sporulation: Pole-to-pole protein oscillation

Sporulating bacteria need to temporally coordinate DNA replication, chromosome partitioning and sporulation initiation. Recent work has shown that one aspect of this coordination lies with the interdependent subcellular localization of two proteins, Spo0J and Soj, and in the Spo0J-dependent spatial oscillation of Soj.

The heliospheric magnetic field at solar minimum: Ulysses observations from pole to pole

The fast transit of the Ulysses spacecraft from the south polar regions of the heliosphere to the north polar regions has allowed us to obtain a unique perspective on the configuration and properties of the heliospheric magnetic field at a time of solar minimum activity. We compare the magnetic field in the northern and southern hemispheres and find no evidence of asymmetry in the radial compon...

Using airborne HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) to evaluate model and remote sensing estimates of atmospheric carbon dioxide

In recent years, space-borne observations of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) have been increasingly used in global carbon-cycle studies. In order to obtain added value from space-borne measurements, they have to suffice stringent accuracy and precision requirements, with the latter being less crucial as it can be reduced by just enhanced sample size. Validation of CO2 column-averaged dry air m...

HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO): fine-grained, global-scale measurements of climatically important atmospheric gases and aerosols.

The HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) programme has completed three of five planned aircraft transects spanning the Pacific from 85 ° N to 67 ° S, with vertical profiles every approximately 2.2 ° of latitude. Measurements include greenhouse gases, long-lived tracers, reactive species, O(2)/N(2) ratio, black carbon (BC), aerosols and CO(2) isotopes. Our goals are to address the problem of...
